White walls and blue floors are my fave

September 30, 2008 // 2 Comments

My style is so all over the place sometimes. First I’m attracted to airy NY city lofts, then I love willy-nilly, slightly cluttered places and now I’m attracted to this countryish home. But really, how can you not love it?

Maybe October won’t be so bad

Three books just waiting to be added to my library all coming out in October. You can see that I’m attracted to classic literature. Fantastic.

My future house (an expansion list)

September 29, 2008 // 9 Comments

A while back I posted a list of things I want in my future house. As long as I’m dreaming, I thought I’d add a few more things.

reclaimed wood floors as seen in Christiane Lemieux’s loft (October’s Domino)

a breakfast nook

an amazing tree house

built in shelves filled with books and a rolling ladder

strings of bulbs lighting my patio

I love all the cute details of this baby shower thrown by Casey of the blog My Life as a Sugar Lander. She’s one creative cookie.

Hot air balloons are my fave

September 26, 2008 // 5 Comments

In all seriousness, does anybody want to join me for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta? It’s a breezy 8 hour drive from Denver and I’m thinking me with the new Kings of Leon CD, some Red Vines and a road trip buddy would make for a terrific weekend. If we leave bright and early October 11, we can make it for the lighting up of the hot air baloons and fireworks. Seriously. Call me.

Kelly Kapoor is my fave

Made a little trip to Target a couple of days ago and spent about 10 minutes riffling through the $1 bins of Office goodies. I really have no need for any of it but it’s The Office! and it’s only $1! and Fashion show, fashion show, fashion show at lunch! Happy premiere day.

Re-loving

Three movies that lately I’ve fallen in love with all over again:

Waking Ned Devine (1998)
Heavy Irish accents, old men bums, hilarious.

Dear Frankie (2004)

Safe to say this is one of my all time favorites. I didn’t know what the fuss over Gerard Butler was until I saw this one. Make sure to have tissue handy.

Charade (1963)
Audrey and Carrie, can you think of a better pair?

List Love: 13 Baby Shower Gift Ideas

September 23, 2008 // 4 Comments

I don’t know if it’s just my age or where I live but there’s definitely been a baby boom among friends and family. Babies on the way = baby showers = lots of time puttering around Target wondering what to get for a gift. Here’s a little list of 13 ideas that might be of help along your journey of being a on top of it, always having the perfect gift kind of gal.

For those on a budget (<$20)

1. Magazine subscription – Cookie, Family Fun or even Real Simple are great resources for moms.
2. It’s hard for me to pass up a cute little outfit even though the new mom will probably get plenty. If it’s just too cute (like the mini pairs of jeans), get one in a 12 month size since they’ll probably have mostly newborn clothes.
3. Most pre-children couples don’t have a wide collection of children’s movies. Pick a few the kid and parent will equally enjoy. Stick with the classics, none of this Telly Tubby stuff.
4. First Aid Kit, for the fever that is bound to happen sooner or later
5. Children’s CDs that parent’s enjoy too – lots of popular bands are coming out with CDs aimed towards children but adults like them too. I’m partial to No! by They Might Be Giants.
6. Children’s books are always a good choice. Sandra Boynton writes some of my favorites.

Midrange ($20-$50)

7. Baby sling – Etsy is a great resource for a homemade piece or strut your stuff and sew up your own. (above sling from Etsy store Bronwen Handcrafted)
8. Baby announcements – If you have any design experience, offer to create and print baby announcements for the momma. (above announcements designed by Jordan of Oh Happy Day!)
9. Pedicure – I don’t know from experience, but I’ve heard it’s hard to reach your feet when you’re preggo. Pamper the expectant mom by giving her a gift certificate to a local spa.
10. Nursery art -If you’re close to the mom and know her design taste or you know the decor scheme for the nursery, give a personalized piece of art or a mobile. (personalized silhouette from Saratams, elephant mobile, giraffe gocco print from Kids Haus)

For those you truly love (>$50)

11. A diaper bag (that doesn’t look like a diaper bag) – because who really likes a plastic bag with Winnie the Pooh anyway? (The Weekender – TTPeasAndCarrots; Market bag by Moop; Market Bag – Christy Studio)
12. Netflix subscription – if the new mom plans on breast feeding there may be some meals during less than fortunate TV programming (i.e. soap operas). If they can Netflix one of their favorite TV shows, you won’t have to worry about them talking about the evil Stefano the next time you see them.
13. Meal service – sign them up to receive a couple dinners a month for 6 months. Every time the meals are delivered to their doorstep they’ll think of you and be eternally grateful.
