Seven layer bean dip is my fave

May 1, 2009

Well hello May. I always welcome May with open arms because so many good things happen in this blessed month. My birthday, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, the end of school and everybody’s favorite Mexican holiday, Cinco De Mayo. Here’s some ideas for a fiesta.

A sombrero combined with a Sharpie equals a wearable invitation that your guests will thank you for. No more complaining that you don’t have a sombrero to fully celebrate taco night.

Brighten your living room up with colorful Mexican flags, garlands and paper flowers. Guests can even put a flower in their hair if they’re feeling really festive. I’m all about the multi tasking.

Buy a million bags of chips and have everyone bring a salsa, some guacamole or some other fancy Mexican styled dip. I’m a fan of pico de gallo and the king of all dips, seven layer bean which can be served in Mason jars for individual proportions.

What to do
I think everyone can agree that a pinata is essential. You can also create Mexican mustaches on a stick and have people wear their sombreros and mustaches around for some laughs. You could also create a Family Feud or Scattergories game about people/places/things from Mexico. Don’t know much about Mexico? Watch Nacho Libre instead.

Send everyone home with a mini pinata filled with little surprises.

Hooray for excuses to throw a party!
