The other day I was teaching a kindergarten class and one girl was waving her hand frantically. When I called on her she simply said, "You look really pretty today." And then another little girl chimed in, "You're smile is really beautiful." They were so excited to offer a compliment, they could hardly sit still. When I told Ryan this story he said, "At what age do we just stop giving compliments so freely and enthusiastically?" I hope never. My new goal is to give sincere compliments whenever I think something good about another person. Because you really do look pretty today.

that's my favorite thing. kids are so sweet and honest and open. they will also tell you anything.. i used to teach dance and whenever i would get a haircut or change the color i would ask what looks better and they would usually answer that it looked better before! ha. it was my way of finding out the truth!
xoxo
I totally agree with this. My little girl reminded me how important it is to give compliments. I would love it when she told the cashier at the store how pretty her hair was and the lady would just beam. I now try so hard to do the same thing to strangers. It is an all around great feeling for everyone. This was a wonderful post. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for this reminder. i'm horrible about giving compliments, i'm going to try to give more.
you really make my day, i love reading your blog every day.
and that is why i love my job! even when they say things like "why does your skin look funny", "did you know you have a mustache" or "are you pregnant" (when you are not)... you still love them for their honesty!

I couldn't agree more! And the nicest thing about complements is that they are as much fun to give as to receive. It can totally brighten your day.
i love that! what a great reminder for the rest of us. thanks for sharing!
that melts me! how precious of those little girls.
what a DARLING story and truly inspirational.
What would you feel if some strange said nice shoes or awesome hair? Because I always want to say those things to strangers but then I always feel shy.
That's the cutest story. =)
i started doing this too! sometimes i get weird looks but i know that when they actually have a minute to soak in what happened, that they will feel good about themselves!
There is nothing better than a sincere compliment. Here's another one for you: your blog is one of my favorites. (No pun intended.)
i love this post. i love kid compliments. they're the best. they notice everything. one day at school i straightened my usually curly hair and a little girl in class said, "teacher, you look so pretty today. you're hair's so liney." it made my day.
grown-ups like compliments from other grown-ups to. i hope we all start paying one another compliments more often :).
Children are so honest. It is a shame they have to be taught to be guarded. Sue
this is my most favorite post to date! compliments make me feel warm and fuzzy all the way down to my toes and i absolutely love making the people i give one to happy. if only all of us could be like children and give freely of a good word....or 6 or 13! (kindergarten? i have 4 little ones & i don't think i could do it. we need people like YOU!)
Best. Post. Ever.

Lovely post, and good reminder. Thanks for sharing your sweet kindergarters compliments with us, I hope to be like those little girls!
Great post! My nieces give me the best compliments, and it always amazes me how these little girls can make me feel so special. When it comes to adults, I often feel awkward giving compliments, but I'm going to make it my mission to do so much more often!
I want to join you. Starting now:
your blog really is one of my faves.
The compliments are one thing I miss about working with young kids (the tantrums not so much). It's been too long since a four year said to me out of the blue "miss paige, you look beauooootiful today." Let's all make a pact to just say no to inhibition!
So lovely! Reading your post warmed my heart.
Kids compliments are the best.
haha they also dish out insults as freely too! i remember one little boy pointing out to me that i had very hairy arms - um, thanks? his mum was mortified! haha
I love your post :)! My favourite compliment is "mama, guapa", that's what my 2-year-old son says to me when he's happy, it means, "mum, beautiful". Compliments are great! Have a nice and full of compliments week-end!

that is so sweet!!!
and that's a very good question/point... i'm going to make an effot to give out sincere compliments more often as well!
your blog is truly lovely and definitely one of my most favorite daily reads :)
BTW your blog is a daily read of mine too.
You are my fave!
aw, that has to make you feel so great....LOVE kids! and i agree, if only adults could be as unabashedly open with their compliments as children are. i'm going to make it a point to follow their example. :)
Posts about compliments are my fave. :)
I love how kids are so honest and enthusiastic and it makes me rather sad that we lose that urge/ability to give such nice, sincere compliments to people. People should be nicer!
You are my fave! Along with bananabread with whipcream :)
Thank you for sharing this - it has served to remind me what I love about teaching! In my last teaching job I had a group of 4 children who were obsessed that I had 'fake ears'!! I don't I can assure you!
xx
Ahhh... so sweet. What a great reminder and a very cute story. :)
that's so lovely. and that's why I love kids.
You made me smile. Thanks!

Kids just make your heart grow 2 sizes.... how do we forget the simplicity of life? Really, we all need a friend and a compliment can make a world of difference to your spirit. Someone knew you were due for a double dose from your little angels. Lucky you.
