Sorry I’m running late this morning, I got distracted by something shiny. Want to be distracted too? Look through the archives of the blog from Scout’s Honor Code. I adore Annemarie’s aesthetic and can’t wait to see more shiny work from her.

It’s a happy day for Victoria indeed. She just launched Styled Magazine (with the cute subtitle “the art of merry making”) a fantastic collaboration of creative talents in the party making arena. I was lucky enough to be involved in styling a little party scene based off of an outfit from the lovely shop Ruche (I picked a couple cardigans naturally). So I got to go shopping and plan a little party at the same time. Bliss. See more photos and the lovely contributions of such faves as Camille, Liz, Brittany and Sara, and Erin in Styled.

I love the country feel (a good balance of rustic and class, if those two words can exist next to each other) and strawberry details from Jenny and Stan’s wedding. Adding strawberries to your bouquet is pretty genius.Chelsea, I’m going to need you to whip me up some of those.

Have I mentioned we’re house hunting? We’re just in the beginning stages but I’m already inpatient. Every house we look at I instantly think about how I would decorate it and where a good place for my cake stand collection would be. Ryan is the rational one looking at the condition of the water heater and such. If I fall in love with one feature, I’m ready to sign the papers, but he brings me down to earth.
To hanker this yearn to decorate (because I’ve completely given up on our apartment and don’t even bother to clean it anymore) I am pouring over the pages of Undecorate from Dwell Studio’s leading lady, Christiane Lemieux. Friends, it is GOOD. The first thing I fell in love with was the perfect shade of chartreuse on the cover. Then I started flipping through and audibly gasped at nearly every page (Ryan thought I was reacting to March Madness). I was so intrigued by every featured home, I actually read the text! They’re all liveable and realistic and you just want to be friends with all the home owners. I could go on but my sub-par writing won’t do this beautiful book justice. So today, because you’re happy it’s Friday, just buy yourself a little present and behold for yourself.

Today I’m fond of this mini book of 172 things ‘to do’ in order to increase your level of accomplishment byBrandy Fedoruk. Things I could check off if they were listed in the book:
- even out a row of brownies
- wikipedia everything
- wear the same pair of pants for a week straight
- dust the bookshelf with your sleeve
- make a lame attempt at doing a pull-up

I seem to have this habit of getting stuck on one thing and I really love it (borderline obsession love it) until I tire and move on. Sometimes it manifests itself in the form of a movie, like that one summer when I was nine and watched Mighty Ducks every single day. Sometimes it manifests itself in a food, like the month I put mustard on everything. And right now it manifests itself in the beauty of fabric wrapping. I’m spending my days studyingthese tutorials from Chewing the Cud and thrift shopping for pretty scarves. It’s going to be hard to kick this one.

Michelle asked me to take part in her love out loud series focused on finding joy in the everyday. I specifically talked about following your heart pertaining to starting a business. Now doing what you want for “a living” (I don’t make enough to consider it a living yet) may help in the daily happy scale but it’s not the problem solver, there are a lot of obstacles and trials that come with it too. I realize that most people aren’t in the position to take the leap and often have to go with what seems to be the more practical choice. But no matter your position, you can always find your happy somewhere. You can find your happy in a quiet morning, in a sunny day, in a nice welcome home hug, in a delicious meal, in allowing yourself a break, in a call from a friend, in the good song that comes on the radio, in the small moments.
Somedays are just the worst. Somedays you find yourself mourning for people across the world and you can do very little. Somedays you feel sorry for yourself and somedays you feel sorry for others. Recognize those feelings, allow yourself to be sad but don’t forget the happy. Because even on the worst of days, there is always happy to be found.
