You really can’t go wrong with a calendar that provides a daily treat counting down until the best holiday of the year. I kind of think we should implement this system leading up to every important occasion – birthdays, due dates, the start of the next season of 30 Rock.
I hosted a day of make last week and a few attendees made advent calendars made from burlap covered boards, mini craft boxes and a whole lot of embellishments. This cute one was made by Lis and I wanted to take it home with me when she was finished.
*Today is the unofficial start of Project Holiday 2011, the opening ceremonies per-se.

Have a happy, pie-filled rest of the week. See you back here Monday for the kick off to YAMF’s Project Holiday 2011.

The official start of YAMF’s Project Holiday 2011 doesn’t start until next Monday but in case you’re prepping holiday gifts this weekend I thought I’d share this easy idea, a tin of hot chocolate with peppermint spoons.
Personalizing a store bought tin of hot chocolate is easy, just cover with wrapping paper and stick on a label. I ordered these cute ones from Pinhole Press. For the peppermint spoons, melt white chocolate over a double boiler than stir in crushed up candy cane. While the chocolate is still hot, dip in wooden spoons than let dry on a piece of wax paper. Wait until the chocolate hardens to package up and deliver. A perfect little gift for neighbors.

If you haven’t heard the news yet, we’re having a boy!
I think every girl dreams of having a baby girl to dress up in frilly things and to be their little shopping buddy and I thought maybe having a boy would be somewhat of a disappointment but the minute it was confirmed, I felt so much joy. I can’t possibly imagine this baby being a girl now. He’s going to be my little sidekick who I dress in grandpa cardigans. I also keep on imagining a mini Ryan with tons of hair and it cracks me up. Yay for baby boys!
PS See our little buddy’s profile right here.

Today feels like a supercalifrageilisticexpialidocious type of day. First, we get to find out if Baby Blodgett is a boy or girl! I’ll let you know Monday but might not be able to keep it in so long from my Twitter and Facebook followers (total bribery). Then I get to teach my first online class all about Alt with Susan. And then I’ll be finishing up last minute details for an all day craft event with Denverites this weekend. I’m not sure I can handle all the excitement.
YAMF elsewhere this week:
Did you hear Jenna Lyon’s town home is for sale? I want!
Awesome advent calendars! (this one really deserves an exclamation mark)
Nursery inspiration for Baby Blodgett boy version and girl version
I’ve got the golden ticket

For a sweet favor, set up a spread of hot chocolate sticks and have your guests bag a few on their way out. This chocolate is from Ticket Kitchen and absolutely divine. A few of them didn’t make it to the mug because I just ate them straight off the stick.
For the packaging, just print the plaid pattern from the invitation onto some small paper bags and seal with a heart brad.
Happy fall party week!

What’s a party without at least a couple decorations? Give a cardboard animal trophy a little makeover with the help of some plaid fabric and rubber cement. Then make quick signs by spelling out words with tacks and yarn. I actually intended to spell out warm up but ran out of room and my laziness won. I had to get back to watching videos of cute babies online.

For some fall party sustenance, fill up vintage thermoses (I scored all mine at thrift stores) with various kinds of hot cocoa and have guests sip their favorites from mis-matched mugs. You could even take a poll at the end to decide which one landed the highest on the delicious scale. Don’t forget to set out some easy snacks to munch on like mini doughnuts and trail mix only available to those wearing plaid of course.

This week will be dedicated to a cozy fall get together. Think sipping hot chocolate and plaid. Lots of plaid.
First up is the invitation, designed and made printable (for you and you and you) by the always awesome Amanda Jones. The combination of craft paper and plaid will have your guests hurling their axe and brushing up on their taxidermy skills in no time.
