lava flows are my fave (guest post from sam & lauren)

June 12, 2012

I had a baby so I’ve invited some fave guests to take over for me while I spend time with the little guy. Today’s refreshing post is from the fashionable twin sisters, Sam and Lauren of twIN STYLE.

Summer is already in full swing here in Texas, and one of the best ways to beat the heat is to sip on a tasty beverage. With that in mind, I thought I would show you how to make one of my favorite tropical drinks. Meet the luscious Lava Flow.

You may have had one of these fun and refreshing drinks while you were on vacation, or maybe at a restaurant, but they’re surprisingly easy to make at home. And because they’re full of fruit, you can even pretend that they’re healthy!

Lava Flow (makes two large drinks)

Ingredients for Strawberry Mixture (Lava):
6 oz. frozen strawberries
3 oz. coconut rum
3 oz. light rum
Ingredients for Banana Mixture
3 small bananas (peeled, sliced, and frozen)
6 oz. pineapple juice
6 oz. coconut cream (Coco Lopez)

Blend the strawberry mixture until smooth. Fill two tall glasses halfway with mixture, then rinse the blender jar. Blend the banana mix, then pour over the strawberry mixture to fill the glasses. The “lava” will slowly seep into the banana mixture, creating a gorgeous and delicious summer drink. Add an umbrella, a straw, and ENJOY!

Don’t worry if your blender takes awhile. You want each mixture to be completely smooth.

You can also make them into mocktails by substituting water for the rum.

Lava Flows will definitely be the star of all my summer pool parties, barbecues, and get-togethers. Will you be trying your hand at one of these beauties this summer?

See more awesome from Sam and Lauren on twIN STYLE.
