Valentine’s Day is not on my list of favorite holidays but it is a fun one to craft for. Even if my hearts turn out a little blob-like and my letters are skewed. Get the full tutorial for this easy, oversized valentine right here on Julep.

a kitchen makeover is my fave (the before)

January 29, 2014

Ever since I’ve known Kirsten (the lady behind a lot of the design work you see on this blog) she’s been talking about making over her kitchen. Her and her husband bought their modern townhome new but had budget restrictions so the kitchen was all standard builder grade. The rest of the home is a mix of modern/mid-century and the oak cabinets stuck out like a sore thumb. Kirsten tries to avoid looking at them since she despises them so much but that’s kind of hard (read: impossible) with the open layout. She’s decided it’s time to change all that, so this week I’m helping transform the room with a little paint from Valspar. Here are some before shots (the least attractive room I’ll feature on my blog) and the inspiration for the makeover:

I’m showing you these photos so you can really be wowed when you see the afters.

Here’s the game plan:
– Paint the back wall Valspar Ocean Radiance (Kirsten’s first choice was actually Valspar Sense of Wonder, but after painting a swatch she decided to go in a different direction. Luckily Valspar has the Color Guarantee where they offer a complimentary replacement color to anyone who does not like their first color choice.
– Paint the cabinets Valspar Feather Quill
– Tile the backsplash with white hexagon tile and gray grout

I’m excited to see the results, I think it will really transform the space. Hopefully we survive, I’ve heard painting cabinets can be a real beast. Wish us luck!

If you’ve been with me for a while, you know I take the Olympic Games very seriously. I’m not much of a sports watcher at other times of the year but when the Olympics come on, the spirit of the games takes over and I’m hooked. Sometimes, I even watch curling (to be fair, it’s the only sport that gives me hope I could be a competing athlete someday).

For you fellow fans, I offer you these Olympic party invitations ready for you to print, fill-in, score, and fold for your viewing parties. Be warned, only invite true fans or you might get some talkers during a very important triple axel.

letterpressed balloon dogs are my fave

January 22, 2014

Alt starts today, yippee! I of course needed to outfit myself with some new business cards and Erika of Foxtrot Press made my dreams of letterpress come true (with balloon dogs no less).

Two questions:
– Is it weird that the thickness of paper makes me happy?
– Will people think I’m a clown?

Only time will tell.
