Ever since I’ve known Kirsten (the lady behind a lot of the design work you see on this blog) she’s been talking about making over her kitchen. Her and her husband bought their modern townhome new but had budget restrictions so the kitchen was all standard builder grade. The rest of the home is a mix of modern/mid-century and the oak cabinets stuck out like a sore thumb. Kirsten tries to avoid looking at them since she despises them so much but that’s kind of hard (read: impossible) with the open layout. She’s decided it’s time to change all that, so this week I’m helping transform the room with a little paint from Valspar. Here are some before shots (the least attractive room I’ll feature on my blog) and the inspiration for the makeover:
I’m showing you these photos so you can really be wowed when you see the afters.
Here’s the game plan:
– Paint the back wall Valspar Ocean Radiance (Kirsten’s first choice was actually Valspar Sense of Wonder, but after painting a swatch she decided to go in a different direction. Luckily Valspar has the Color Guarantee where they offer a complimentary replacement color to anyone who does not like their first color choice.
– Paint the cabinets Valspar Feather Quill
– Tile the backsplash with white hexagon tile and gray grout
I’m excited to see the results, I think it will really transform the space. Hopefully we survive, I’ve heard painting cabinets can be a real beast. Wish us luck!
