Last weekend we helped orchestrate a surprise parties for one of our good friends, Jon. And by help I mean, I was a sounding board for all of Natalia’s awesome ideas and Ryan bought the balloons. It was fairly simple but so much fun.
- the best invite I’ve ever received (designed by Natalia)
I think this if my favorite theme for Blog Party Music Week. Why? You may ask. Well, who doesn’t like remembering braces, socials and your first crush?
I Want It That Way – Backstreet Boys (still a personal fave)
Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls by TLC (I so wanted to be Chili)
Wannabe by the Spice Girls (and yes, I did see Spice World)

I’m still offering free advice for those who don’t have the time to wait for Abigail Van Buren to answer.
I suggested to Natalia that she could try out this wall storage idea to store her magazines.
I told Lauren that an Eat Shop Guide would make a perfect hostess gift.
I recommended eye cream and Origins concealer to help Karen combat her dark under eye circles. (If anyone has suggestions for a cheaper alternative, let me know.)
And I told Michelle to decorate her shelf with objects of varying textures and sizes.
I also handed out some heavy duty relationship advice. So now I’m just waiting to get syndicated, naturally.
Jackie thought of the great idea to have a week full of good tunes. Everyday Jackie, Maggie and I will be posting a few of our favorite songs that go along with a theme. Today’s theme is Happy-Go-Lucky songs-Songs that put a smile on your face and can totally turn your mood around. My picks were chosen based on the fact that when my i-pod is in shuffle mode, I never skip them.
- I Believe in a Thing Called Love by The Darkness (the video is completely ridiculous)
- Falling by Ben Kweller (if you haven’t heard this yet, you’re welcome)
- Swimming Pool by the Submarines
- Fans by Kings of Leon
- America by Neil Diamond (American patriotism at it’s finest)
Visit Sweetie Pie Pumpkin Noodle and Magchunk for some more happy songs. Feel free to join in on the fun on your blog or just post a comment of some of your faves. I’m always up for something that will inspire some freestyle dancing.

I’ve been visiting my parents for the last week. Whenever I’m home it seems like all these crazy memories come back to me. I like to cringe at some of my journal entries and flip through old yearbooks. I was looking at one the other day and I swear someone signed mine thinking it was somebody elses. It said something about being the best singing partner, which doesn’t make any sense. I sing like a donkey. Plus I have no recollection of knowing anybody by the name that was signed. Weird. So that’s a little explanation for why I came up with this high school party theme.
Invites: Make up some mock report cards addressed to the invited. Have subjects such as, awesomeness and dance moves. Add a little note from teacher like, “Jimmy is a pleasure to have in class, although I’m a little concerned about the amount of trips he takes to the bathroom.”
Food: Corndogs, tator tots, sheet cake, chicken nuggets and little cartons of milk. Make sure the serve them on lunch trays.

Game time: Get an old sheet and possibly some funny props (a ladder or fake plant will do just fine) and set up a school photo booth. Encourage people to wear something they would have worn in high school. A letterman’s jacket would be rad. Have people tell their most awkward high school stories and crown the winners with a homecoming queen or king crown. Make sure that you have tunes that you listened to in high school playing in the background. MMMbop is a personal fave.
Favors: Send everyone home with a brown paper sack filled with little bags of chips and fruit roll-ups, a mix CD of greatest hits, and a little flip book that guests sign with things like, “Have a great summer!” and “You better call me.”
If someone throws this party, will you please invite me?

Simple Song

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there’s no one else above you?
You fill my heart with gladness.
Take away all my sadness.
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.
Love always,
Melanie

I’m now searching for an occasion where it would be appropriate to wear a small cluster of flowers in my hair. The next wedding I’m invited to perhaps? Although I wouldn’t want to deflect attention away from the bride. You know, because of my extreme prettiness and all. Note to new readers- please detect sarcasm now.
Target really launched the guest designer trend. Although I have the urge to yell copycats! when I hear of another store doing it, some of these lines are too hard to resist.
Note to self: start a worldwide trend so I can be as cool as Target.
Ideas so far: Girl Scout cookies available all year round, a scooter that can also become a jet pack, sweats as acceptable work wear
