A high school reunion that's not really a reunion is my fave

I've been visiting my parents for the last week. Whenever I'm home it seems like all these crazy memories come back to me. I like to cringe at some of my journal entries and flip through old yearbooks. I was looking at one the other day and I swear someone signed mine thinking it was somebody elses. It said something about being the best singing partner, which doesn't make any sense. I sing like a donkey. Plus I have no recollection of knowing anybody by the name that was signed. Weird. So that's a little explanation for why I came up with this high school party theme.

Invites: Make up some mock report cards addressed to the invited. Have subjects such as, awesomeness and dance moves. Add a little note from teacher like, "Jimmy is a pleasure to have in class, although I'm a little concerned about the amount of trips he takes to the bathroom."

Food: Corndogs, tator tots, sheet cake, chicken nuggets and little cartons of milk. Make sure the serve them on lunch trays.

Game time: Get an old sheet and possibly some funny props (a ladder or fake plant will do just fine) and set up a school photo booth. Encourage people to wear something they would have worn in high school. A letterman's jacket would be rad. Have people tell their most awkward high school stories and crown the winners with a homecoming queen or king crown. Make sure that you have tunes that you listened to in high school playing in the background. MMMbop is a personal fave.

Favors: Send everyone home with a brown paper sack filled with little bags of chips and fruit roll-ups, a mix CD of greatest hits, and a little flip book that guests sign with things like, "Have a great summer!" and "You better call me."

If someone throws this party, will you please invite me?

This might be the best party idea ever. And I hated high school!

This is a great idea! I have a deep, secret love of bad cafeteria food and trapper keepers, so I would definitely attend that party! Or maybe I should throw one of my own. :)

I love the photobooth idea! My friends and I co-hosted a party called "Jello Shots on the Playground" and everyone was encouraged to dress up like they did when they were kids and bring kid photos, which we posted on the wall for everyone to see. We had ants on a log, juice boxes, fruit rollups, and Dunkaroos for snacks. So much fun.

This is my fave. Especially the photo idea. And don't forget the Mandy Moore on your mix cd with Mmmbop. One is incomplete without the other :)

I totally love this. I wonder where one finds old school trays though? (And I always had the flat ones, not the awesome kind that was pre-divided. Damn school district).

I was out of the country when my class had its 10-year reunion in November. It was so sad, but a party like this would be a great consolation prize!

i totally had this party! it was called "let's get awkward!" ours was actually junior high themed though. it was amazing. we had a ton of 90s music that was popular when we were in jr. high, and everyone dressed the part. we had the cafeteria food and old seventeen and teen magazines all over the place. we slow danced like ten feet away from our partners with our arms on the shoulders and the waist. it was awesome. i would have invited you but it was like 2 years ago! :)

YOU ARE SO CUTE!

I threw a yearbook party last summer with the same theme, although everyone had to bring their high school yearbooks with them--- the photos were endless forms of entertainment! :)

Genius! I love the report card idea. My brother recently found his varsity jacket — what once was the big letterman jacket on him as a teenager now looks so small (and doesn't fit) It was a sight.

"I sing like a donkey."

ahHAHAHAHA! That is ridiculous.

For some reason, the idea of singing partners is weirding me out right now, too. I mean, I was in choir for 10 years so I get it but do you ever say or see a word and then it loses all meaning? That just happened with "singing partner". And now I have the morning giggles! Yay!

Oh me too! Please invite me!

i love theme parties so much and this one is super awesome!!! if i threw this party i would also have to have freshly baked chocolate chip "muffins", annoying little miniature styrofoam cups with iceberg lettuce "salad" and a packet of italian dressing.

high school mems can be harsh. i totes hear you on the cringe-worthy journals... eeks!

That is such a great idea--you're so clever.

I just attended a party with a similar twist. It was 1984 Prom...total blast. The organizers had found all kinds of props...my favorite being all of the movie/celebrity posters from that era. So fun to see all of the ruffles and taffeta.
