Since I’ve learned how easy it is to gild, I can’t stop thinking of surfaces I want to turn golden. I’m kind of worried my house might start looking like a tacky Las Vegas hotel. Please stop me if it gets to that point (but let me down gently, with ice cream or something).
For now, we’ll start with gift boxes. To make your own you’ll need:
- wooden boxes (I found these at Michaels for a dollar!)
- masking tape
- acrylic paint
- Martha Stewart Crafts Gilding Adhesive
- Martha Stewart Crafts Gilding Sheets
- Martha Stewart Crafts Gilding Brush Set
Step one: Tape off one side of the box and paint with acrylic (you may need a couple coats). Let dry and remove tape.
Step two: Tape off the painted side and cover with gilding adhesive. Let air dry until tacky.
Step three: Lay gilding sheet face down on top of the glued side. Press down firmly with a brush and gently peel away the excess. Done!
These boxes would be perfect for party favors, small gifts, or tabletop storage.
